LANSING, Mich. – The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Michigan is the latest

group to lend its endorsement to the Citizens for Local Choice ballot effort that seeks to repeal

Part 8 of the Clean and Renewable Energy and Energy Waste Reduction Act as added by Public

Act 233 of 2023.

"For ABC of Michigan, this is about jobs. In an effort to make Michigan 100% renewable, the

current law shuts out 80% of Michigan’s workforce by placing union-friendly restrictions on

affiliated jobs, limiting fair and open competition,” said Shane Hernandez, President of ABC of

Michigan. “Our membership is proud to support the Citizens for Local Choice ballot campaign

that not only reinstates the authority of local government but also restores the rights of all

Michigan workers by repealing the prevailing wage and project labor agreements the law

requires.”

ABC of Michigan is a statewide trade association representing the commercial and

industrial construction industries. ABC supports fair and open competition, free enterprise,

freedom of choice for workers concerning union membership and training programs, balanced

budgets, a fair taxation structure, and reasonable regulation.

“This law affects every industry and every citizen in Michigan,” said Rich Studley, Citizens for

Local Choice Committee Member. “We are proud to add ABC of Michigan to our growing list

of supporters who recognize the impact of this policy and its negative impact on their members.”

Other organizations who have recently taken action to support the ballot committee include the Michigan Farm Bureau and the Michigan Townships Association.

The Committee is currently collecting signatures to secure a place on the general election ballot. The committee has a total of 180 days to gather signatures, but if the required 356,958 valid signatures from registered voters can be obtained by May 29th, the initiative could be placed on the November 2024 ballot; otherwise, the initiative would advance to the November 2026 ballot.
